about
I was at music college, surrounded by fellow songwriters who were all reaching for something more. It struck me that people who choose to pursue a career or any kind of validation in music are slightly broken, it takes a certain type of person to want to stand up on stage and spill your heart out. And here we all were together, supporting each other but also competing with each other. Climbing towards something and most of us aren't even sure what it is we want out of our musical careers, we just keep climbing, hoping to fly and hoping we don't fall.
lyrics
I can run faster than you don’t hold me down,
One day I’ll pack up and I’ll leave this town.
I can sing louder than you don’t shut me up,
I will never lose sight of what I love.
When I fall, that’s when I wonder
Was it all worth it?
I can run faster than you don’t hold me back,
All I’m missing is the strength I lack.
I can sing louder than you til my voice, it breaks.
I can sing louder than you if that’s what it takes.
When I fall back down to earth it
Seems it all, yeah it was worth it.
We look around
For something inviting
For unholy ground,
Safe from the lightening
That singed our wings.
Why are we here,
Raising our voices?
It seems so unclear
But we all made our choices
To sing.
And that’s the main thing.
I can grow taller than you in so many ways.
Fly too close to the sun with my wings ablaze.
I can fall harder than you and when I land
I’ll be wax and feathers in your hands.
When I fall back down to earth it
Seems it all, yeah it was worth it.
We look around
For something inviting
For unholy ground,
Safe from the lightening
That singed our wings.
Why are we here,
Raising our voices?
It seems so unclear
But we all made our choices
To sing.
And that’s the main thing.
I’ve found that the meaning of life
Is to do what you love and try to survive
And hope that you don’t fall apart
When you finally open your heart
And find that the clothes on your back
Are nothing but feathers and wax
We all find the clothes on our backs
Are nothing but feathers and wax
We all find the clothes on our backs
Are nothing but feathers and wax
We look around
For something inviting
For unholy ground,
Safe from the lightening
That singed our wings.
Why are we here,
Raising our voices?
It seems so unclear
But we all made our choices
To sing.
And that’s the main thing.
We look around
For something inviting
For unholy ground,
Safe from the lightening
That singed our wings.
Why are we here,
Raising our voices?
It seems so unclear
But we all made our choices
To sing.
And that’s the main thing.
